1. Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It by Chris Voss.
Key ideas:
- Empathy is the most powerful tool in negotiation. This means understanding the other party's perspective and emotions, in order to build trust and find common ground.
- Labeling is a powerful technique to build rapport. This means using language that acknowledges the other party's feelings and concerns, in order to build trust and understanding.
- Mirroring is a technique to understand the other person's perspective. This means repeating the last several words (or the critical one) that the other person has just said, in order to signal that you are actively listening and trying to understand.
Quote:
"The best way to persuade someone is by listening to them"
"The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't said"
2. Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In - by Roger Fisher and William Ury
Key ideas:
- Separate the people from the problem. This means focusing on the issues at hand, rather than allowing emotions or personal feelings to cloud the negotiation.
- Focus on interests, not positions. This means understanding the underlying needs and desires of the other party, rather than simply focusing on their stated position.
Key Idea:
Generate a variety of options before deciding. This means coming up with as many potential solutions as possible, rather than getting locked into a single solution early on in the negotiation.
Quote:
"The best way to predict the future is to create it"
"You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate" << love this.
3. The Art of War by Sun Tzu
Key Ideas:
- The importance of understanding and outmaneuvering the enemy in order to achieve victory.
- The value of strategy and planning in achieving success.
- The importance of flexibility and adaptability in the face of changing circumstances.
Quote:
"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting"
"Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories"
"Every battle is won before it is ever fought"
Read here
Happy reading nhé mọi người.
